A testing prototype of the upcoming 2019 VW T-Cross has been spied yet again. This time however, the crossover shows almost everything. As you may see, the vehicle hides just headlights and taillights, while everything else seems to be finished. More precisely, the carmaker is trying to confuse us with lights which have been borrowed from the T-Roc, but the scam is not working, because it’s quite clear that this is the T-Cross. The biggest giveaway is a notably higher ride height. Yes, the Polo-based SUV gets taller body when it’s compared to the Golf-based T-Roc.
The 2019 VW T-Cross will ride on the MQB A0 platform. The architecture has been familiar already since it supports the new Seat Arona. The chassis will make the crossover around 161 inches long and will provide both front- and all-wheel-drive options. Potential buyers will be able to pick either manual gearbox or the familiar dual-clutch transmission. Powertrain-wise, well, the 2019 T-Cross will rely on Polo’s engine options. Meaning, there will be a 1.0-liter three-cylinder mill with 95 and 115 horsepower, as well as a 1.5 TSI unit that delivers around 150 horsepower. The SUV will most likely get an oil-burner option too. More precisely, Volkswagen will add a 1.6 TDI engine that pumps out 115 horsepower. The diesel will probably skip some markets, though.
The upcoming crossover still hides the cabin, but we are pretty sure that there will be no surprises in there. More precisely, the interior will likely mirror its hatchback sibling. Volkswagen will also add a few standard electronic driving aids, so you can expect both front collision warning and lane departure warning.
Just don’t expect the 2019 VW T-Cross anywhere near U.S. ground, because this is not going to happen for sure. The carmaker will, on the other hand, offer the stretched version of the SUV in China. Speaking of options, we also expect to see the convertible version sometime later. In case you’ve forgotten, VW previewed the SUV at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show as the open-top three-door T-Cross Breeze concept, so why would they miss the chance to offer the cabrio-SUV and earn some additional money?
